Background of the Study
Salary structure refers to the framework an organization uses to determine the pay levels of employees based on factors such as job roles, experience, education, and market trends. An effective salary structure not only ensures fairness and equity but also serves as a motivational tool, driving employees to perform at their best. In the banking industry, where competition for skilled employees is fierce, the salary structure plays a crucial role in attracting and retaining talent. Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, has designed its salary structure to align with industry standards and promote employee motivation.

In Yobe State, where Access Bank has branches, salary structures can significantly impact employee morale and performance. Motivated employees are more likely to exhibit higher levels of job satisfaction, commitment, and productivity. Research has shown that a competitive salary structure is linked to increased employee motivation and retention (Nwachukwu & Ikpe, 2024). However, there is limited research on the specific effect of Access Bank’s salary structure on employee motivation, particularly in Yobe State.

This study seeks to evaluate the impact of Access Bank’s salary structure on employee motivation and performance in Yobe State. The research will focus on understanding how the bank’s compensation policies influence employee behavior and contribute to organizational success.
